Our History

St. Vincent de Paul has served the poor internationally for over 180 years. As a Catholic organization originating in Paris and organized by Blessed Fredrick Ozanam, we’re inspired by gospel values but independent from the church.

We have had a presence in South-central Idaho since the 1980s and the Twin Falls thrift store opened in 1986.

There are some 700,000 men and women throughout the world who voluntarily join together to grow spiritually and offer person-to-person service to the needy and people living in poverty in 142 countries on five continents.

How we make a difference:

We help people in need by assisting with food, housing expenses, clothing, furniture, and other basic human needs through your generous donations of goods, food, volunteer time, and financial support.

Together, we prevent homelessness in Southwest Idaho.

Our core service is providing assistance on a person to person basis. Called a home visit, this consists of a pair of volunteer visiting clients' homes to discuss their specific needs and offer support.

Through our Home Visits we work toward the prevention of homelessness by providing direct assistance. This assistance can be used to help with utility bills and rent when eviction is imminent. This direct approach to assistance gives the Home visitor a unique perspective. This perspective allows us to offer additional assistance that may be needed, such as, food, clothing and furniture.

Our home visitors belong to a conference in Twin Falls, Idaho. Everyone who calls our help line for assistance is assigned to St. Vincent de Paul volunteers who out to visit the person or family in their home to determine how best they can be helped.

Our volunteers who provide home visits are called Vincentians. The Vincentians share, with those in need, the simple fellowship of a listening ear and a caring heart in addition to the material assistance. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul helps all in need without judgment, it's in our nature to help.

St. Vincent de Paul can help with utilities, rent, household goods, transportation, and clothing. We believe that nobody should have to forego these necessities or face homelessness. We are here to help!

If you would like some help, please call us and leave a message with name, phone number, zip code, and how we can help you. Make sure you speak slowly and clearly. A volunteer will call you back within 48 hours. Keep in mind that the call may be from a blocked number - Please answer it! If you don't receive a call back, please call the Helpline again. The caller will arrange a visit by two St. Vincent de Paul Volunteers.

The thrift store

Opening a thrift store gave us the opportunity to take donated items, resell them and generate the funds to help those in need. It required the donation of time and energy of several dedicated church members to come together in a vision to help others as Jesus would want them to do.

It is our mission everyday to help those in need.

Our team

We could not exist without our dedicated volunteers that make this organization run. Our team also consists of a select few staff members and employees.

Every person who contributes their time to St. Vincent de Paul is passionate about preventing homelessness in our community.
